Drawing on the back of a church bulletin, a ten year old amuses himself as his dad preaches in a small church in the Midwest. By sixth grade he realizes the self-confidence a Friday afternoon art project can afford. Each year of art study in Kansas and then Texas secondary schools brings a clearer vision that Dan McBain will pursue art as his passion.
In 1971 McBain graduated from the University of Corpus Christi with a bachelors degree in art, specializing in painting.
1977 was the beginning of Robert D. McBain Studio. Over the years the Studio has evolved from a weekend art show enterprise into an art production company that bids fine art commissions and interior murals, supplies galleries and collectors with unusual batik fabric collage, and offers much of his current series in giclee print.
The main fair at Robert D. McBain Studio is a collection of batik fabric collage ranging from architectural themes to exotic animal patterns on his figure studies. Even though the traditional wax resist is maintained in his batik process, the color application is done wet on wet instead of dipping for a very western effect on a traditionally eastern art form.
In 2005 “Presentations” a staging company was added to McBain Studio to meet the growing need of placing artwork to its best advantage in the residential environment.
2006 was McBain’s first year in San Antonio. 2007 brought the registration of “Presentations” and “Sunset Road Gallery” both continued enterprises of McBain Studio.
