Ping Irvin, (Yunping Ma) is an artist who grew up in Kunming, China. Her beautiful work is reminiscent of Frida Kahlo, Paul Klee and George Braque. Her family name, “Ma” means horse in Chinese, and the horse appears in many of her paintings.
Ping graduated from Yunnan Art College in 1982.
She won first prize in the National Chinese Exhibition in 1982 for the oil painting, “Return” which was published in the book, “Chinese Fine Arts, the excellent works collection"
She has had shows in the United States, China and Thailand and has collectors in the United States, Germany, Japan, China and Thailand. Her painting titled "Distant View” was featured in the book, “Biography of Chinese Artists Worldwide. Then in 1999. The work titled "Limpid Fountain” won the International Honor Prize in the “International Chinese Art Competition“, and she was given the award of “Outstanding International Chinese Artist”
She is also listed in, "Who’s Who in the Art of Modern China" and "The Biographic dictionary of Chinese artists" She has shown in many Texas festivals such as Bayou City Art Festival, Cottonwood Festival, Denton Art and Jazz Festival, and of course the Beachcombers Art Festival. In 2007, she won “Best of Show” in the Rockport Art Festival. She now lives in Texas, with fellow artist/husband, Craig Irvin.
