Claudia Garza, a Brownsville native and local artist, has a passion for art and culture. In the year 2000, she graduated from St. Edward’s University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and International Business. A few years later, she received a Master of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Brownsville. In graduate school, Garza diligently pursued the study of Fine Arts, alongside the supporting fields of Spanish and Latin American Government.
The painter is undoubtedly influenced by nature, and considers it her muse. Not surprisingly, inspiration for her artwork comes from the beauty that surrounds her, here in the Valley, and in her worldwide travels. Most of Garza’s pieces depict organic forms found in nature and boast of vibrant colors and luminosity. This artist enjoys utilizing different mediums in her artwork, such as soft pastels, oil pastels, acrylic and oil paints. Some of her favorite painters include Van Gogh, O’Keeffe, and Matisse.
In order to share her God-given talent with the world, Claudia takes great pleasure in showing her artwork in exhibitions. Upon completing her graduate degree in 2006, the artist has successfully participated in approximately fifteen individual and collective exhibits in Brownsville, Matamoros, South Padre Island and Austin. She is currently working on a collection to be exhibited in New York this Summer.
